Christy Whitney
Yoga
Christy Whitney is the Director and Owner of Bikram Yoga-John's Landing www.bikrampdx.com. She is dedicated to helping people explore and expand
their personal limits through practicing yoga and eating healthy. She
discovered Bikram Yoga while she was caring for her terminally ill
mother and searching for a physical outlet. What she found was a yoga
practice that fundamentally transformed her life. Convinced of the power
of Bikram Yoga to heal people physically, emotionally and spiritually,
Christy attended the Bikram Yoga Teach her Training in fall 2002.
For 16 years Christy ate a mostly vegetarian diet that also included
plenty of junk food. In 2006, she consciously shifted to eating live,
whole, nutrient-rich foods. This led to a personal transformation that
has left her feeling healthier, younger and more vibrant, and which has
developed into a way of life. She is currently earning a master's in
Vegan-Live Food Nutrition from the Tree of Life Foundation.
Both from personal experience and working with students at her studio,
Christy has seen the impact a healthy diet and a regular yoga practice
can have on us physically, mentally, and spiritually. Christy has merged
her two passions to create an environment at her studio that allows
individuals to achieve optimal health. By demonstrating the importance
of focusing on what we put into our bodies as well as how often we
practice yoga, Christy's studio is empowering people to take back
control of their own health and happiness. She believes that when
people practice yoga and eat whole, organic, live food, they can
experience powerful personal transformations.

Nicole Daddona
Belly Dancer
Nicole Daddona has been dancing for 12 years. Her dance career began
in the cabaret style of belly dance, but when she saw tribal belly
dance for the first time she knew that was what she needed to do. So
she moved to Portland to study with Gypsy Caravan, and has been
blessed with many gifts since that time. As an instructor Nicole
brings her knowledge of the body together with the strength of
creating community together to create a joyful learning environment.
She also performs regularly with Gypsy Caravan. Dance is her joy, and
her passion.
Gypsy Caravan is a mesmerizing troupe of American Tribal Style
Bellydancers (ATS). ATS was created in the San Francisco bay area
about 30 years ago, and Paulette Rees-Denis, the director and founder
of Gypsy Caravan, was one of the original members of the first ATS
troupe, Fat Chance Belly Dance. Since that time ATS has evolved into
a myriad of different things. What holds true is that we are an
improvisational belly dance group that draws knowledge from the past,
while being created in the present. We borrow from many ethnic
cultures as well as today's urban spirit. Feel your tribal soul
coming to life, echoing our cries for life and freedom, as we dance as
one. www.gypsycaravan.us |

Peter Spendelow
Ecological Footprints, Global Warming, and Food Choices
How we eat affects us all.
If you eat the standard American diet, the food you eat probably has more impact on the environment than the car you drive. A recent major United Nations report found that livestock operations around the world contribute more global warming gases than the entire transportation sector. Come find out how what you eat affects our land, our air, our water, and the species diversity on our planet. Peter will examine how eating low on the food chain, eating organic, eating seasonal, and eating local can affect our ecological footprints.
Peter has worked for 22 years as a natural resource specialist for the State of Oregon , and has a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Washington . Peter is also the current President of Northwest VEG. |

Matchbox Shrines
Holiday Crafts Demo
A combination of traditional craft, diy-politic and craft-activist
kitsch, the DIY Lounge has been the place to explore your creative
side since 2005. During the Vegan Holiday Festival, Dawn Sorem one of
the many craft experts at DIY Lounge at collage, will lead you in a
veritable bacchanalia of craft in a shrine-making workshop. Build a
shrine for the holiday for your best friend or sweetie, deify your
dog or simply celebrate yourself with these tiny, glittering boxes
filled with adoration. A little tacky, very sweet and fun for
everyone, shrines are a great way to introduce yourself this holiday
season to the wide, wide world of Do-It-Yourself. We also dispel the
myths of glues and let you in on which are vegan and which are not.

Michael Mandrell
Michael honed his open-tuning guitar chops in the early 80's on the
Texas folk circuit. From these humble folk music origins his style
has emerged as an eclectic fusion of world music, the guitar becoming
a small orchestra in his hands. Moving to Taos, NM in 1991, Michael
performed with the world fusion group "Taos" co-producing their CD, "The Deepening Edge", released nationally on Blix Street Records.
Tunes from this CD have been recently re-released on Blix Street
Records beautiful new compilation, "Fiddlers Green"
His self produced CD, "The Great Spiral Dance" continues in the fusion
tradition with his original guitar compositions masterfully arranged
with many other world instruments. "The Ancient Art of Soul Travel"
from this recording was used on the soundtrack of the documentary film"Stone Reader" ( www.stonereader.net) which has played in theaters
across the country.
Michael is one of those rare artists who has a strong sense of his
Western musical roots, yet can make beautiful and sophisticated forays
into the music of the East. "The Great Spiral Dance" is a great
collection of his compositions that cover a wide range of styles - and
he excels in each.
His most recent recording, "Anjali", was produced with Portland
musician Benjy Wertheimer ( www.benjymusic.com).
Recently honored with
a rave review in Yoga Journal magazine, "Anjali" is a mythical journey
into creative improvisation, an all instrumental mix of yoga
meditations.
Michael makes his home in Portland, Oregon and tours regionally and
nationally, playing solo as well as with many of the acoustic warrior
road tribe, including Lynn Wedekind ( www.lynnwedekind.com), Jenny
Bird ( www.jennybird.com) and Benjy Wertheimer.
He is the most versatile guitar player I've ever encountered and he
deserves great success. I have seen him play his unique blend of jazz,
folk and classic for hardcore country audiences...what else can I say?
Michael Martin Murphey
Michael Mandrell has appeared with: Lyle Lovett, Nanci Griffith, Bill
Miller, John Gorka, Kate Wolf, Dave Swarbrick/Simon Nichol, Johnny
Cunningham, Spyro Gyra, Carl Struck, California Guitar Trio, William
Ackerman, Christine Lavine, Robert Mirabal, Shadowfax, Townes Van
Zandt and Steve Fromholtz. |
